How to Replace a Volvo Replacement Key Fob

Your Volvo key fob does so more than just unlock and lock your car. It is also an advanced antitheft device that uses special technology to communicate with your car to prevent theft.

What happens if the battery in your key fob dies? Our team at Volvo Cars Mission Viejo has all the answers!

How to unlock Your Vehicle

Modern electronic key fobs offer superior convenience and performance to manual keys. Batteries will eventually get worn out and need to be changed. If your Volvo keyfob only functions intermittently, the battery could be dying and you will have to replace it quickly.

There are simple steps you can follow to replace your Volvo key fob battery on your own. Find a clean surface to work on. Lay out all the tools you'll need. Then, locate the battery's hatch, and then open it with a flathead, a coin, or a similar tool. Next, carefully pry the battery from its socket by lifting it on the side closest to the key-ring loop. Wear rubber gloves to shield the clips and electronic contact surfaces.

Once the battery has been removed, put the new battery into its socket. Make sure the positive side of the battery is facing upwards and that all clips are secured. Slide the cover down toward the key-ring area until it is loose and falls off. Take off the cover to reveal the hidden key blade.  G28 Car Keys  can be used to unlock your vehicle from the driver's side door if the key fob battery is dead or missing.

How to Start Your Vehicle

Most modern vehicles are equipped with key fobs that perform much more than just unlock or lock the doors. They can also be used for other useful functions such as summoning or auto-parking the vehicle. In fact, the latest Volvo XC60 can even remotely start the engine using key fob buttons. How exactly does it work?

First, locate a clean, flat surface where you can lay out all the essential items needed for this project. Place the fob on top of the surface with the Volvo logo facing up. Use a flathead or coin, or similar tool to flip open the battery hatch. Be careful not to touch the electronic contact surfaces using your tools. This can cause the fob to stop functioning properly.

Once the hatch is open you can slide the battery into its socket and make sure it is seated correctly with the positive (+) side facing up. After the clips are secured into place, remove the battery cover, and then reassemble the fob.

When you press the unlock button just once and the alarm will disconnected and the driver's door will be unlocked. By pressing it a second it will unlock all the doors and tailgate. The unlock button is also beneficial for rolling down the windows to let in cool, fresh air on a hot summer day. If you'd like more, the keyfob can be used to activate the ERS that will begin the climate control system of your vehicle and warm or cool the vehicle to the desired temperature when the vehicle is in a parking.

How do I change the battery?

If your key fob isn't locking or unlocking your car as it used to, it may be time to replace the battery. The battery can be replaced using a flathead screwdriver plastic pry bar, or other small tools. First look for the small slot in which the backup or emergency metal ignition key used to reside. Use the blade of a screwdriver or a prybar tool into this slot and gently pull the back of the fob open. After the fob is open you can locate the CR2032 3V battery and take it off. Put a brand new battery in its spot and snap the fob back together.

Note: Older Volvos use a different battery which is the CR2025. CR2025 batteries have the thickness of 7/10ths millimeters less than a CR2032, so you'll need to be extra careful when replacing your battery.

A reliable key fob is important for security and convenience, so make sure to follow these steps when changing your Volvo's battery. How to unlock the Key Blade that is Hidden Key Blade

Keyfobs from Volvo have changed in recent years. The key fobs offer more than just a remote that can lock and start your vehicle. They can also open the windows and provide an energy boost when needed. To unlock the full potential of your key fob first, you'll have to learn how to use it.

Your key fob has a transponder chip that is programmed to your Volvo. When you insert the key fob into the ignition barrel the transponder chip scans the code and compares it with the one that is stored in the start inhibitor module of your car. If the codes don't match and your car doesn't start, it won't. This is a crucial security measure that stops your Volvo from being started if a wrong key is used.

You will need to take your key that you lost to a dealer in order to have it replaced. Your vehicle will also be programmed. This process can last up to 10 working days and cost a lot of money. You can save money by programming your own computer. You will find all the information you require in your owner's guide or on the internet. First, remove the logo and non-logo covers from your key fob. Then lay it on a flat surface. Press the grey button in the upper right corner of your fob. This will open the cover to reveal the CR 2032 3V battery.
